Leading automobile manufacturers are allocating their corporate social responsibility (CSR) budgets to make the country’s roads safer. New initiatives underway involve adopting stretches of highways to fix accident-prone zones, setting up trauma centres and providing life-saving ambulance services.
This supports and builds on efforts by the government to reduce road accidents and fatalities as about five lakh accidents are reported across the country every year, leaving some 1.5 lakh people dead and many more injured.
